When that survey was made very little was known about the Paleolithic occupation in this part of the Nile Valley, and it was anticipated that sites would be located which would justify a major study of the Late Paleolithic in this area.

ISBN: 978-963-08-1360-0
Description: softcover, 198 pages (24x17), 58 plates
Condition: very good
Weight: 650g.

Aegyptus et Pannonia IV, Acta Symposii anno 2006, ed. by Hedvig Gyory, Budapest 2010

Preface
Ladislav Bares, Procession of deities and demons on the inner sarcophagus of Iufaa
Filip Coppens, Funerary Practices in Ptolemaic and Roman Temples. (cf. H. Szymanska). The very poor state of preservation of this mummy, which had been plundered in antiquity, and the necessity to empty the sarcophagus prior to conservation, led to the decision to conduct the research described in the present volume. The result constitutes an important contribution to our knowledge of mummification methods in Ancient Egypt, as yet not fully understood, and of various factors associated with burials in the declining years of Egyptian civilization.

The preservation of the human body after death was an essential precondition for prolonging that person's existence. According to Egyptian mythology, the first mummy was made by the goddess Isis, who assembled the dismembered limbs of her divine husband Osiris, after he had been quartered by his brother, Set. Every deceased person before being laid in the grave was identified with Osiris and subjected to complicated embalment operations, which were accompanied by specific religious rituals. Despite a great deal of information preserved in ancient sources regarding the methods of mummification, the process has never been recreated in a fully satisfactory form. Since the early 20th century,2 scholars have attempted to verify the information given by such classical authors as Herodotus (II. 86-88) in the fifth century B.C., or Diodorus Siculus (1.91-92) in the first century B.C. The fragments of two papyri from the first half of the first century (papyrus no. 3 from Bulak and papyrus no. 5158 from the Louvre), copies of originals from the New Kingdom, are a much more valuable source; but although they provide us with many valuable indications regarding the embalming process, they cover only its final stages. At present it is necessary to verify all this information using the research apparatus that is available to us today.

The use of modern research techniques, the application of specialized analyses from various ancillary disciplines, and finally the unwrapping of the mummy brought extraordinarily interesting results. With due regard for the complex ethical factors involved in research on human remains, we were fully aware of the necessity to bring the mummy to a state that would make it possible to return it safely to the sarcophagus, its place of final rest. The decision was made to wrap the mummy in ancient bandages, with some additional modern bandaging added (cf. K. Babraj).

An Egyptological analysis of the sarcophagus and the cartonnage that lay directly on the mummy, as well as an extraordinarily painstaking interpretation of the highly unusual amulets found under the bandages, is presented by A. Niwinski in his article. During the autopsy a great deal of valuable information was obtained regarding the method of bandaging and the type of fabric used to wrap the mummy (cf. K. Tempczyk).

The first test performed on the mummy was spiral computer tomography, thanks to which it was possible to identify the bone elements, the remains of soft tissues, and the arrangement of bandages, which proved to be essential during the later autopsy (cf. A. Urbanik).

The anthropological analysis of the mummified remains, which made it possible to specify the age and height of Aset-iri-khet-es at the moment of her death, as well as the pathological changes in the bones and teeth of the skeleton, constituted an extraordinarily important part of the project. These examinations also produced her lifetime appearance, obtained thanks to a computer program (cf. M. Kaczmarek).

Physical, chemical, serological and histopathological examinations were performed on samples taken from the mummified remains. The results indicate that pine resin (Pinuspinea, Pinuspinaster) was used to mummify the Egyptian priestess from Cracow, while no traces were found of the bitumin universally used in the Ptolemaic period (cf. M. Ktys et al., A chemical...).

Serological tests performed on a sample of muscle tissue taken from the mummy made it possible to confirm the presence of human protein, which is testimony to the effectiveness of the mummification process. It was also possible to identify the blood type of the priestess (cf. M. Ktys et al., A serological...).

A skin sample taken from the scalp of Aset-iri-khet-es was used to clone a fragment of the genetic code (DNA) (cf. A. Sutkowska). Attempts to isolate ancient human DNA were first undertaken in the early 1980s. The goal of this research is to explore the mechanisms underlying evolutionary changes taking place in our species. Also known as el-Bahrein, it is located 96 km west of Alexandria, 40 km west of ancient Taposiris Magna (Abu Sir), and 185 km east of Paraetonium (Marsa Matruh). For the past twenty years, Polish and Egyptian missions have been conducting archaeological research and preservation of the remains of the Hellenistic-Roman town and necropolis found on this spot and tentatively identified on the basis of descriptions of ancient destruction on the Mediterranean coast. The excavations occupy a section of the lagoon coast more than 1000 m long E-W and about 550 m wide N-S. The layout of the ancient town has been reconstructed on the basis of results of investigations conducted to date. The harbour infrastructure, including warehouses of which ruins have survived, lay immediately on the coast. Directly to the south of the port and commercial quarter, was the city centre which included baths, a civic basilica and other public buildings around a porticoed main square. Surrounding the centre were densely occupied habitation quarters. Remains of more than 50 different architectural structures have been discovered in the town and necropolis. On the basis of archaeological evidence, the town functioned from the 2nd century BC to the beginning of the 7th century AD. The earliest remains, some even from the mid 2nd century BC, were found in the necropolis. A very specific type of architectural decoration characterized by simplification and decorative geometrization appears in Marina where it also seems to have been prevalent. This kind of stylization has been associated mainly with Petra where a similar architectural decoration was commonly applied. Having been recognized first in Petra, it came to be known as Nabatean. The stylized architectural decoration discovered at Petra and Hegra is so specific and dissimilar from any of the Classical orders that it has even been described on occasion as a separate architectural order.

Preface by Prof. Dr Wiktor Andrzej Daszewski
Acknowledgements Abbreviations
Introduction
CHAPTER I: THE MARINA-TYPE PSEUDO-CORINTHIAN ORDER Capitals
Origin of the Forms of Capitals
Ways of Evolution of Forms of Capitals
Analogies in Architecture of Other Regions Entablature
Doric Entablature in Pseudo-Corinthian Order
Decoration of Cornices
Origin of Cornices with Modillions
CHAPTER II: CONSTRUCTING THE CANON OF THE MARINA PSEUDO-CORINTHIAN ORDER Proportions of Supports
Height of Entire Columns and Pilasters
Height and Width of Bases
Proportions of Capitals Entablatures
Architraves
Proportions of Cornices and of Entire Entablatures
Doric Entablatures
CHAPTER III: THE MARINA-TYPE PSEUDO-IONIAN ORDER Capitals Origin of the Forms of Capitals and Analogies in Architecture of Other Regions
CHAPTER IV: CONSTRUCTING THE CANON OF THE MARINA PSEUDO-IONIAN ORDER Proportions of Capitals
CHAPTER V: HEIGHT OF THE MARINA PSEUDO-IONIAN AND PSEUDO-CORINTHIAN COLUMNS
CHAPTER VI: THE MARINA-TYPE PSEUDO-DORIC ORDER
Constructing the Canon of the Marina Pseudo-Doric Order
CHAPTER VII: THE EVOLUTION OF THE MARINA-TYPE FORMS AND THEIR DATING Chronology of Buildings in Marina
Variants of the Form of the Marina-Type Pseudo-Corinthian Capital Variants of the Form of the Marina-Type Pseudo-Ionian Capital
CHAPTER VIII: ARCHITECTURAL ORDERS DIFFERENT FROM THE MARINA-TYPE The Classical Forms of the Architectural Orders Nabatean "Order" and Forms
CHAPTER IX: POLYCHROMY Polychromy of Capitals
CHAPTER X: HOUSE AEDICULES
CHAPTER XI: ARCHITECTURAL DECORATION NOT PART OF ANY OF THE ORDERS
CONCLUSION
BIBLIOGRAPHY
LIST OF FIGURES
FIGURES
CATALOGUE OF ARCHITECTURAL MEMBERS
PLATES

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0222/6404/products/The-Architectural-Decoration-of-Marina-el-Alamein.jpg?v=1365677268
saqqara-iv-the-funerary-complex-of-nyankhnefertem
Saqqara IV, The Funerary Complex of Nyankhnefertem

ISBN: 978-83-7543-151-3
Description: hardcover, 287 pp. (30,5x21,5cm), CLI Pls, 330 vols. issued
Condition: very good
Weight: 2250g.

K. The events which led to the fall of the Ramessides can be compared only with the twilight of the Tuthmosides under the last rulers of the XVIIIth Dynasty, and to some extent also with the end of the XIXth Dynasty, when usurpers and other powers behind the throne played a dominant role. If the crisis of the monarchy at the end of theXVIIIth and XIXth Dynasties was finally overcome, with the result that new ruling families started a fresh policy of revival, the decline of the XXth Dynasty marked the end of the glorious epoch of the New Kingdom and the devasting collapse of political and social order in Egypt.

Preface
Abbreviations and bibliography
Introduction — Egypt and Thebes before the accession of Ramesses XI
1. Basing his ideas on both the archaeological record and the basic principles of engineering - as well as the results from a series of model and full-scale tests - Dr. Parry provides a challenging answer to this mystery of the pyramids. He suggests that ramps were used and the huge stones were transported and raised by rolling them, rather than using highly inefficient sledges beloved of Egyptologists.

Engineering the Pyramids provides a rich and accessible account of the design history of the pyramids, the techniques and organisation needed to bring about these heroic feats of effort and engineering and fascinating insights into the reasons behind the pyramid design.

Dr R.H.G. Parry is an emeritus fellow of Pembroke College, Cambridge, where he was involved in research and teaching in civil engineering. He was General Secretary of the International Society for soil mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering from 1891 to 1999 and has a special interest in the history of civil engineering, on which he lectures worldwide.

Preface
Acknowledgements
Origins and Purpose
Evolution in Pyramid Design<br The local necropolises of the Old and New Kingdom together with the temple of the lion-headed goddess, Bastet, of the Libyan Period (10th/9th century BC), are even today productive find spots. Of exceptional importance is a hoard find (1992) from the area of the Bastet temple; it is presented and discussed here for the first time.

The objects, many of them without parallels, are currently exhibited in temporary galleries at the University of Zagazig.

Dank der Vermittlung Marusienskis erwarb man u.a. 16 Uschebtifiguren...

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0222/6404/products/Corpus-der-Agyptischen-Totenfiguren-der-Offentlichen-Sammlungen-Krakaus.jpg?v=1366199041
die-gyptischen-totenfiguren-katalog-aus-den-sammlungen-des-national-museums-in-poznan
Die ägyptischen Totenfiguren, Katalog aus den Sammlungen des National Museums in Poznan

ISBN: 83-89053-37-3
Description: softcover, 74 pp. (21,5x28,5 cm), Polish-German text, phots., bibl
Condition: new
Weight: 410g.

oggetti-in-argilla-dallarea-templare-di-bakchias-el-fayyum-egitto-catalogo-dei-rinvenimenti-delle-campagne-di-scavo-1996-2002
Oggetti in argilla dall'area templare di Bakchias (El-Fayyum, Egitto).

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0222/6404/products/Cheops-Die-Geheimnisse-um-den-Bauprozess-der-Grossen-Pyramide.jpg?v=1367253914
gypten-augenblicke-der-ewigkeit
Ägypten, Augenblicke der Ewigkeit

ISBN: 3-8053-2004-3
Description: hardback (21,5x23,5), 340pp., 271 color phots, 29 b&w
Condition: very good
Weight: 1285g.

Madeleine Page-Gasser, Andre B. From objects belonging to the king and housed in the temple to the tools of daily life used by artists and nobles to ritual objects concerning death and the afterlife, the treasures collected here are a testament to the rich, vibrant, and captivating culture of the ancient Egyptians.

The British Museum possesses one of the world's foremost collections of Egyptian antiquities. In Temples and Tombs, readers are presented with a rare opportunity to glimpse the collection's renowned masterpieces and treasures little known outside the museum walls. The eighty-five objects featured within these pages span a full range of pharaonic history - from shortly before the First Dynasty, about 3100 B.C., to the Roman occupation of the fourth century A.D. - and cover each of the four periods into which ancient Egyptian history is divided: Old Kingdom, Middle Kingdom, New Kingdom, and the Late Period.

This fully illustrated book accompanies a major traveling exhibition organized by the American Federation of Arts and the British Museum.

Tell el-Farkha II.
