Dank der Vermittlung Marusienskis erwarb man u.a. 16 Uschebtifiguren...

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0222/6404/products/Corpus-der-Agyptischen-Totenfiguren-der-Offentlichen-Sammlungen-Krakaus.jpg?v=1366199041
die-gyptischen-totenfiguren-katalog-aus-den-sammlungen-des-national-museums-in-poznan
Die ägyptischen Totenfiguren, Katalog aus den Sammlungen des National Museums in Poznan

ISBN: 83-89053-37-3
Description: softcover, 74 pp. (21,5x28,5 cm), Polish-German text, phots., bibl
Condition: new
Weight: 410g.

Hermann A. From objects belonging to the king and housed in the temple to the tools of daily life used by artists and nobles to ritual objects concerning death and the afterlife, the treasures collected here are a testament to the rich, vibrant, and captivating culture of the ancient Egyptians.

The British Museum possesses one of the world's foremost collections of Egyptian antiquities. In Temples and Tombs, readers are presented with a rare opportunity to glimpse the collection's renowned masterpieces and treasures little known outside the museum walls. The eighty-five objects featured within these pages span a full range of pharaonic history - from shortly before the First Dynasty, about 3100 B.C., to the Roman occupation of the fourth century A.D. - and cover each of the four periods into which ancient Egyptian history is divided: Old Kingdom, Middle Kingdom, New Kingdom, and the Late Period.

This fully illustrated book accompanies a major traveling exhibition organized by the American Federation of Arts and the British Museum.

Description: hardback, cloth, 183 pp. (30x21,5cm), 96 figs., CXXXVII plates; in French
Condition: very good
Weight: 1580g.

M.Vaulina et A. A Study Attempt at the Reconstruction of the Collection, Warsaw 2007

Stanislaw Kostka Potocki's collection was established in late J785 and early 1786 in Naples, where Count Potocki sojourned with his mother-in-law, Duchess Izabela Lubomirska. It numbered ca. 115 pieces acquired in various ways, also during archaeological excavations in Nolan graves, financed by Potocki. In the course of the 19th century, Potocki's collection grew to ca. 293 pieces, thus becoming the largest in Poland. The historical inventories of this collection, however, were destroyed during the 2nd World War; hence, it is very difficult today to separate the divisions of this collection.
The present attempt resulted in the identification of half the collection, including all its most precious and significant vessels. It is consequently possible to evaluate the collection in general, and, from a historian's point of view, to judge the collector's interest in this branch of Greek art more objectively. Naturally, Stanistaw Kostka Potocki did not limit his interests to ancient Greek painted vases. He was a talented connoisseur of modern European painting and graphics, as well as Oriental art. Among his studies there is a reconstruction of the Villa of Pliny, made in the spirit of neo-Classicism, whose artistic level is stunning even today. Due to the accuracy of his observations, this experienced collector, scholar and art critic is recognised as the pioneer of art history and art evaluation in Poland. In the European context, Potocki's interest in ancient vases to a certain extent reflected the current tendencies in the archaeological studies, a then emerging branch of knowledge. At that time, beginning with the works by Buonarroti and Gori, to Hamilton's monumental publications, of which the first volume appeared in the year 1762, archaeology approached its topic much in the spirit of art history. These authors, apart from expressing their admiration for the artistic and technical prowess of ancient ceramicists, attempted to interpret the scenes depicted on those masterpieces of classical art.
The present catalogue is the achievement of Dr Witold Dobrowolski, an outstanding expert on ancient art, professor of the University of Warsaw, member of the Committee of Ancient Culture Studies at the Polish Academy of Sciences, and the curator of the Department of Ancient Art in the National Museum in Warsaw.

grand-tour-the-birth-of-a-collection-of-stanislaw-kostka-potocki-a-journal-of-the-exhibition-15th-november-2005-9th-april-2006
Grand Tour. Grand Tour of Stanislaw Kostka Potocki and its catalogue celebrate the 200th anniversary of the existence of a museum in the Wilanow Palace and illustrate the very beginnings of this institution. The November vernissage commemorates also the 250th birth anniversary of the founder of our collection.
The exhibition illustrates, on the basis of existing source material, the programme of young Stanislaw Kostka Potocki's initial education, which was designed by his tutors, and later his independent studies, the shaping of his worldview and attainment of maturity as a collector, as a man f of many accomplishments, and as an erudite with wide knowledge of Northern-European and Antique art. In our studies, special attention was devoted to the research workshop of this archeologist and historian of art, who was one of the first in Poland to be fully aware of his research goals. Thus, examined were Potocki's methods of stylistic analysis, as well as methods according to which he selected individual features of given works of art and later recalled them to mind. His written material on these topics is still insufficiently researched; therefore this catalogue is exceptionally rich in quotations concerning his thoughts and reflections, coming from his own letters and notes, mainly those written during his many European, and especially Italian travels. These excerpts acquaint the reader with reasons for Potocki's journeys — first in order to complete his education, later for study and research, finally to bolster his failing health. The archive material is ordered chronologically, according to the sequence of his most important travels, the towns he visited, and also the works of art he purchased.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0222/6404/products/The_Birth_of_a_Collection_of_Stanislaw_Kostka_Potocki.jpg?v=1368002989
catalogue-of-ancient-coins-in-the-ossolinski-national-institute-part-4-the-reign-of-antoninus-pius
Catalogue of Ancient Coins in the Ossolinski National Institute. The principles of that reign, called the golden age or the age of the Antonines. arc best characterized by the personification of Aequitas, Felicitas, and Fides that were often placed on the issues of silver and bronze coins.

The intense political and economic expansion in the 2nd century brought with it ihe widening of Rome's borders and influences northwards and to the territories beyond the Danube, reaching as far as the present Slovakia. The contacts with the peoples inhabiting those areas resulted in an influx of Roman currency beyond the limes of the Roman Empire, including the territory of the old and contemporary Poland. This process is reflected by numerous hoards and lesser finds that constitute the major source of 2nd century coins, especially those minted during the reign of Antoninus Pius and Marcus Aurelius. That explains why in many Polish collections the coins among which there is a preponderance of silver denarii-date from the times of those emperors and constitute the most numerous group.

The structure of the Ossolineum collection is a typical illustration of this phenomenon -the coins registered in the present volume, 558 in all. from the biggest group in the collection of Roman coins.

An important characteristic of the mintage of that age, initiated by Vespasian, was the concentration in Rome of the issues of denarii, a currency of nationwide character, whose metallic value did not undergo significant fluctuations during the whole of the 2nd century. Of the provincial mints only that in Alexandria functioned, issuing numerous billon tetradrachms and bronzes indispensable for the economy of Roman Egypt. The monopoly of Rome's mint contributed to the achievement of a high standard of the technique of coinage, regular and numerous issues and long scries of types. The official, typical titula-turc stabilizes at that time making it possible to date the coins on the basis of offices held: consulate, the number of years of tribuneship, and imperial acclamations.

Among the most valuable coins presented in vol. 4 arc those from the Wroclaw hoard whose parts going back to the reign of Trajan and Hadrian were presented in vol. 3'. The mosaics are the remains of the first Roman-period synagogue to be uncovered in modern times and were discovered by French army captain Ernest de Prudhomme in 1883. This book provides the opportunity to evaluate the place of the Brooklyn mosaics in the history of synagogue art for the first time since they entered the Brooklyn Museum collection in 1905. The primary subjects depicted are the Creation and Paradise, and decorative motifs include birds and fruits, with two menorahs flanking the Latin inscription. The first project meeting was organized by Edmond Pottier in Paris in 1919. The final decision was to publish a comprehensive catalogue of ancient Greek vases. He was also the publisher of the first fascicle for the Louvre in 1922. At this time six countries were part of the project. Today the project covers a compendium of more than 100,000 vases located in collections of 26 participating countries. At present day only public collections located in museums are added to the catalogue.
Every participating country is completely responsible for their own scope, while the Union Académique Internationale in Brussels has the patronage traditionally led by a French scientist.
The CVA publishes Greek and Italian ceramics of the classical period between the seventh millennium B.C. and the late Antiquity (third-fifth century A.D.). The publications are divided into fascicles by country and museum. The show's United States tour began in April 2005 at Emory University's Michael C. Carlos Museum in Atlanta, Georgia and continues through June 2009. The objects are explained in 12 richly illustrated chapters that deal with various aspects of ancient Egyptian art and material culture: chronology; sculpture; archaeology; sites; weights and measures; daily life; writing; arts and crafts; ceramics; funerary works; tools and weapons; and faience and glass objects. First and foremost, Excavating Egypt... is the story of the Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology, founded through bequest in 1892 by writer Amelia Edwards (1831-1892) at University College London. It was named after Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie (1853-1942), a professor of Egyptian Archaeology. Edwards' numerous trips to the land of the pharaohs were described in her popular A Thousand Miles Up the Nile (1877); the book introduced British readers to Egypt, its people and ancient monuments.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0222/6404/products/Excavating-Egypt-Petrie-Museum-Egyptian-Archaeology.JPG?v=1400655189
agypten-in-charlottenburg-50-jahre-museumsgeschichte
Ägypten in Charlottenburg, 50 Jahre Museumsgeschichte

ISBN: 3-88603-497-9
Description: hardback, 79 pp. (24x17cm), phots.
Condition: very good
Weight: 390g.

Ägypten in Charlottenburg, 50 Jahre Museumsgeschichte, Hrsg. von Dietrich Wildung, Verein zur Förderung des Ägyptischen Museums Berlin, SMB Ägyptisches Museum und Papyrussammlung, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin 2005
